2015 Cannondale SuperSix EVO : Ultegra 11 : Green

Season:2015

Brand:Cannondale

Code:VARCM2139GRN

The 2015 Cannondale SuperSix EVO Ultegra is an impressive marriage of quality componentry and performance for the money - especially with this years price reduction - and will leave those who ride or race it wanting for very little.

The Cannondale SuperSix Evo Hi-Mod has been exceptionally well received - with good reason - and while the standard SuperSix was an extremely competent and highly raceable machine it was inevitable that it would eventually be superseded. This process began in the 2013 season with the introduction into the range of the SuperSix Evo SM or Standard Modulus and that incredible frame continues down the range for 2015 and becomes the mainstay of the Cannondale carbon race range. It is available in several guises including this 11 speed Ultegra equipped model.

Cannondale have taken the core of the EVO Hi-Mod – the frame – and produced an exact copy save for one thing, the modulus of the carbon. The whole Evo concept was to produce a platform that was the perfect all-rounder and they succeeded with their unique blend of stiffness, light weight, aerodynamics and comfort. By utilising a higher percentage of intermediate modulus fibre in its construction (though still their BallisTec carbon), Cannondale were able to expand the Evo range to include SM models. The basis for these bikes is a frame that is marginally heavier but which, at sub 950g, is still very much high performance and that out-strips it’s predecessor the SuperSix.

All the features that make the Evo such a joy to ride;  Speed Save anti-vibration,  narrowed tube profiles, the mind-bending BB30 stiffness and the incredible design approach, are all still in evidence they are simply cheaper and a touch heavier. It is worth pointing out that the majority of Super-bike frames out there are still around the same weight as the Evo Standard Modulus which not only makes the Evo SM a great performer but, relatively speaking, an absolute bargain. You can own a Sram Red equipped Evo SM complete bike for less than the price of most high-end framesets of equivalent weight.

Fundamentally the Evo SM is the same bike as the HM: it offers superb all-round performance with drag numbers only just shy of the most ‘Aero’ bikes on the market thanks to it’s reduced frontal area, narrow fork blades and slim downtube; a comfort level usually reserved for more relaxed, less rigid frames and stiffness numbers to rival many bikes at twice the price.

The overall ride quality of SuperSix EVO is something that is immediately recognisable. From the first pedal stroke you notice just how responsive the bike is, it feels like it wants to go without you having to put too much effort in - but never in a way that makes you feel that you might be out of your depth. Poise is the word. At the same time it feels remarkably refined - a super-smooth ride feel that allows you to concentrate on the road or focus on your race tactics rather than worry about what your machine might be doing underneath you. It handles like a dream, the front end is sharp but controlled thanks in part to off-set dropouts while the rear of the bike tracks beautifully, sling-shotting you out of the corners and launching you up the inclines.

The SuperSix Evo SM Ultegra is a superb balance of value for money versus performance and specification. Equipped with Shimano's new 11 speed 6800 Ultegra groupset and partnered with Mavic's Aksium wheelset and Cannondale's exceptional Hollowgram Si BB30 Cranks, it rewards the rider with deft handling and smooth shifting performance effortlessly. Cannondale's C2 aluminium bar and carbon seat post with Fizik Arione saddle round out a reactive, cutting-edge race bike of superb value, as much at home on a 5 hour Sunday ride or an eyeballs-out weekly Criterium.

It is available in 6 sizes from 50cm to 60cm.

TECHNOLOGIES

  • BallisTec Carbon
Cannondale's carbon construction method uses precisely placed high modulus fibers over a base of high strength fibers to deliver extreme light weight and perfectly tuned stiffness, without sacrificing strength.
  • SPEED SAVE Micro-Suspension
Subtle flex zones built into the chainstays, seatstays and seattube allow the rear wheel to track the ground, improving speed, handling and comfort. Tuned to work with the SPEED SAVE Fork.
  • SPEED SAVE Fork
BallisTec Carbon and offset dropouts deliver tuned vertical compliance and razor sharp handling. Works as a system with rear triangle.
  • Less Drag
Smaller diameter frame tubes means less frontal area and less drag than the oversized competition, without the added weight and harsh ride of aero frames.

  • I am looking a t buying a second hand 2015 model frame size 54cm, I am 175cm tall. Is the frame size suitable?
Question asked by Darren on 14/11/2019 22:19:39
Hi Darren, It's a bit sweeping to simply say yes. Your fit will depend on more than simply your height I'm afraid. As a general rule, yes, an average person of 175cm tall with average flexibility and who is in proportion should be able to ride a 54. But also possibly a 56 and potentially a 52.......!! If you wish to discuss fit further then please contact the shop on 01753 858777 and we can dig a little deeper into it! Thanks
