The Silca Superpista Floor Pump is a modern masterpiece with impressive heritage. With a hard earned reputation for uncompromising quality and craftsmanship, Silca products are built to perform for a very long time. Silca still supply parts for pumps that were designed and built in the 1960's-70's and this is testament to their pumps' quality, durability and performance.
The SILCA SuperPista has long set the standard of what a bicycle floor pump could and should be. As an object used before almost every ride, a floor pump has the ability to optimize the comfort and handling of your bicycle, to allow you to adjust the way a bicycle feels before a particular ride. They can bring great pleasure of use, or pain, suffering and frustration. A great floor pump must feel good in your hands, operate smoothly and consistently, and be stable under foot, regardless of what shoes you are wearing. It must also last the test of time, not letting you down in a race car-park or hotel room far from home.
In 2014, SILCA moved SuperPista production to Indianapolis taking the historic SILCA ideals and reimagining them with new technologies, manufacturing methods and processes. High tech manufacturing methods and materials have been combined with old world materials and ideals to create an heirloom quality product which you will be proud to hand down to the next generation.
Every element of the Silca Superpista has been engineered to deliver optimal performance and to flawlessly endure daily use.
The 2 key elements of a high pressure floor pump are the hose and the chamber. Silca's 12,000psi hose was originally designed for use in race car and aircraft brake line, the Ultimate hose is just that, the Ultimate. Smooth bore PTFE liner, over-braided in stainless steel, then over-extruded in protective and beautiful red urethane. Unlimited rotational fittings are used on both ends of the hose, allowing it to flex and rotate from both ends even when pressurised. The Ultimate breaks the mold again by including the hose in the 25 year warranty of the pump and not treating it as a wear item.
The barrel, aside from being beautifully finished and something to behold, conceals the real tech - borrowing from racing car suspension, the Superpista Ultimate uses a PTFE impregnated, hard anodized piston rod running inside an IGUS linear bearing in the top cap for minimal play with maximum smoothness. These are the identical materials and processes used by companies like Porsche!
The high grade stainless steel chuck is simple to engage, simply push the chuck onto the valve and the pump does the rest. Converting air pressure into gripping force, the chuck becomes more secure with increasing pressure, so no more leaking or pump chucks firing themselves off of the valve.
The 160psi guage of the Superpista Ultimate is supremely accurate offering 1% accuracy (versus the industry standard of +/-5%) and this means even the fastidious among us can alter the pressure in our boots by 1psi at a time.
The dual Schraeder / Presta chuck is magnetically docked to the base with a powerful Neodymium magnet and saves any bending or reaching. It is strong enough to allow the user to pick the pump up by the handle without the chuck un-docking. Despite this, a quick tug will disengage the chuck to allow for ready usage.
One of the defining features of the Superpista Ultimate is the handle. Having been one of the first to embrace plastics after the second world war, Silca re-embraced wood as their preferred handle material. After countless prototypes and variants, the resulting Rosewood handle is inspired both by classic frame lugs and the finest Japanese kitchen knives. The Ultimate handle blends Investment cast Stainless Steel lugs with hand turned Rose-Wood to create a shape that is both secure and comfortable in the hand, wider, larger diameter, and more ergonomically refined than any other pump handle.
Simple to use, the Superpista Ultimate is beautiful both from an aesthetic point of view and from that of Engineering. With no compromise in material quality or construction, the Superpista will last a lifetime.
