The Silca Superpista Floor Pump is a modern masterpiece with impressive heritage. With a hard earned reputation for uncompromising quality and craftsmanship, Silca products are built to perform for a very long time. Silca still supply parts for pumps that were designed and built in the 1960's-70's and this is testament to their pumps' quality, durability and performance.
The SILCA SuperPista has long set the standard of what a bicycle floor pump could and should be. As an object used before almost every ride, a floor pump has the ability to optimize the comfort and handling of your bicycle, to allow you to adjust the way a bicycle feels before a particular ride. They can bring great pleasure of use, or pain, suffering and frustration. A great floor pump must feel good in your hands, operate smoothly and consistently, and be stable under foot, regardless of what shoes you are wearing. It must also last the test of time, not letting you down in a race car-park or hotel room far from home.
During the Giro d'Italia in 1989 SILCA introduced the SuperPista, effectively changing the definition of what a floor pump could and should be. The large wooden handle, and 50mm longer barrel could inflate tyres faster and with less effort, while the all metal construction carried on the SILCA ideals of lifetime rebuild-ability and durability. These original SuperPista's are true classics, revered by their owners worldwide and sought by collectors
27 Years later, the modern SuperPista carries on the ideals of the original, while adding a significant dose of technology and additional features sure to again change perceptions about what a floor pump can and should do. The new larger, more ergonomic wood handle, 12x larger base area for ultimate stability, and 2.5x larger / 50% higher precision gauge than the original again changes the standard. The SuperPista once again sets the bar and is guaranteed to become a modern classic.
Every element of the Silca Superpista has been engineered to deliver optimal performance and to flawlessly endure daily use.
Slightly less 'ultimate' than the Super Pista Ultimate, the Super Pista remains functionally impeccable with Silca's legendary build quality. A slightly less premium gauge, beech-wood handle rather than Rose-wood and the absence of the magnetic clasp help keep the costs down while still meeting the exacting standards inherent in the brand. This is born out by the Lifetime warranty.
The barrel, aside from being beautifully finished and something to behold, conceals the real tech - borrowing from racing car suspension, the Superpista uses a PTFE impregnated, hard anodized piston rod running inside an IGUS linear bearing in the top cap for minimal play with maximum smoothness. These are the identical materials and processes used by companies like Porsche!
The high grade stainless steel chuck is simple to engage, simply push the chuck onto the valve and the pump does the rest. Converting air pressure into gripping force, the chuck becomes more secure with increasing pressure, so no more leaking or pump chucks firing themselves off of the valve.
The dual Schraeder / Presta chuck is docked to the base with a clip rather than the powerful Neodymium magnet used in the Ultimate.
One of the defining features of the Superpista is the handle. Having been one of the first to embrace plastics after the second world war, Silca re-embraced wood as their preferred handle material. After countless prototypes and variants, the resulting Rosewood handle is inspired both by classic frame lugs and the finest Japanese kitchen knives. The handle blends Investment cast Stainless Steel lugs with Beech-Wood to create a shape that is both secure and comfortable in the hand, wider, larger diameter, and more ergonomically refined than any other pump handle.
Simple to use, the Superpista is a modern take on a classic - beautiful both from an aesthetic point of view and from that of Engineering. With no compromise in material quality or construction, the Superpista will last a lifetime.
