Yoga for Cyclists : Recover and Restore Recover and Maintain your Flexibility & Mobility

Over the last few years there has been a steady increase in the number of cyclists taking up Yoga in order to augment their cycling training and gym work. Yoga is a discipline that serves to underpin and supplement the cardio work and cycling specific drills that riders practise in order to improve their fitness.

700's Yoga for Cyclists : Recover and Restore is a dynamic session that draws on the two key elements central to Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga : those of breath and its relationship with movement. Ashtanga looks to link each breath with a prescribed movement and Yoga for Cyclists is based on the Ashtanga Primary Series - a set sequence that will be modified to offer the greatest benefit in the context of cycling.

When practised consistently, Yoga for Cyclists can help to improve not only your core strength and flexibility, but also your stamina, overall muscle strength and stability; elements key to maintaining a stable and efficient position on the bike.

This Recover and Restore session is ideal practise in-season and will complement your increased mileage. Its focus shifts towards the restoration and recovery of muscles while remaining centred around the strength building practise of Ashtanga Vinyasa. Designed to minimise stress on well used muscles and maintain flexibility and mobility in the major muscle groups that are key to comfortable, sustainable cycling. In addition, Yoga for Cyclists will also teach you to deepen and control your breathing - an invaluable skill for dealing with those tough climbs or chasing the breakaway.

Improvements in muscular flexibility and mobility will help reduce the liklihood of injury and discomfort on the bike as well as off it and will be beneficial in your day-to-day too! It is an excellent follow-on from our Strength and Stability course but is also invaluable for those new to the practise.

If, like so many cyclists we speak to - particularly during bike-fittings - you struggle with the discipline to spend time stretching in order to remain comfortable and flexible on the bike, our Recover and Restore session could well be ideal for you.

The sessions are led by Vikki - Mrs 700!

As well as being a keen cyclist, Vikki has been practicing Yoga for over 16 years and is a fully qualified Ashtanga Vinyasa and Rocket Yoga teacher. She fully understands that we are all unique with our own physiological constraints and her relaxed and engaging style combined with her years of practice, make her an excellent guide for even the most novice Yoga student. You can be sure of an un-critical and encouraging approach to your time on the mat, and always within the context of your unique physical ability.

Vikki's approach is functional and in each session you will be working simply to feel the postures in the target areas. This approach is a move away from traditional 'alignment' based teaching that concentrates on achieving an aesthetic. Each of us will achieve varying levels of the 'ultimate' posture and not one of them will be wrong!

The goal is progress - not perfection.

With a multitude of possible modifications, Yoga for Cyclists is accessible to all, whatever your yoga experience, if any. You will quickly notice improved strength in the physical body that will translate to your cycling and that fundamentally will serve to enhance mental strength.
