2021 Cannondale SuperSix EVO DISC Ultegra Di2 Road Bike Mercury Silver

Season:2021

Brand:Cannondale

Code:C11551MMercury

The revised SuperSix Evo platform from Cannondale has been extremely well received. Winning a Bike of the Year accolade - and righty so - the Ultegra version especially, was incredibly popular, all but selling out in March before the Covid Chaos ensued and demand went through the roof.

One model that was missing from the range for 2020 - and was much requested - was an Ultegra Di2 version in the Carbon (rather than Hi-Modulus) frameset. A bike that balances the electronic requirement of many with a more wallet friendly position in the market place.

For 2021 then, Cannondale have come good with a Di2 Ultegra equipped Carbon SuperSix Evo which replaces the (slightly troubled) Force AXS model from 2020.

There have been few changes to the SuperSix Evo range after last year's ground-up and highly praised overhaul of the platform. The two main differences are notable though. Firstly, the absence of a Rim brake model - like the Synapse Endurance platform before, Cannondale are now completely committed to the Disc brake. The second is less profound a change but a hugely welcome one and one that makes a whole lot of sense considering the basis of the bike : the use in all models - save for the 105 base model - of the KNOT SystemBar and Stem which reduces drag presented by the cables and hoses while simultaneously cleaning up the aesthetic of the bike.

Aside from those details and the obvious addition of the electronic groupset, the 2021 SuperSix Evo retains all of the characteristics that garnered so much praise last year......

Cannondale's new SuperSix EVO Disc Ultegra uses a tubeset that employs truncated aero profiles to dramatically enhance air flow and reduce drag. At the same time, they have ensured that the class leading stiffness and super low weight of the predecessor remain, indeed they have managed to reduce the weight of a 56cm frame by 19g - no small achievement given the inherent increase in material used in aero frames. To further improve aero performance, Cannondale have - like on their SystemSix platform - integrated the key elements of the bike as a system. In the past such integrations have led to a greater amount of faff with servicing and tuning and in many instances - huge issues with shift performance. Cannondale learned from their doomed Slice RS project - a supremely fast yet virtually impossible to service TT bike - that integration needs to be both user friendly and well applied! Learn they have - and the new KNOT System Bar and KNOT Stem are both aerodynamic and supremely integrated with the frame. Cables are routed internally through both and deliver the cabling through a dedicated channel in the headtube that by-passes the headset for totally internal cable routing - this saves upwards of 85% of the drag caused by external cabling and the shape of the KNOT Cockpit assists with airflow to make the bike faster.

For all but the base SuperSix EVO Hi-Mod bikes and including this Ultegra Di2 Carbon model, Cannondale use their KNOT 45 Carbon wheelset designed in partnership with HED in the US. These aero hoops are super wide for excellent aerodynamics when fitted with wider tyres and are some of the fastest wheels in their class. The 45mm depth is perfect for riding in all environments and terrains - light enough to climb with and deep enough for palpable speed gains when charging on the flat.

Other aero improvements come from the new design of seat binder and the truncated shape of the new KNOT 27 SAVE Seatpost which also lends greater comfort to the ride through its engineered flex. The comfort of the SuperSix EVO has always been a key feature of the platform since many of its competitors, while stiff, could punish a rider over longer rides, sapping energy and ultimately robbing speed. Despite Cannondale's huge aero gains (30 watts of free power) they have managed to increase vertical compliance by 18% thanks to a new frame design that mounts the seat stays lower on the down tube. This allows for increased frame flex while increased tyre clearance for the use of 30mm tyres, helps deliver greater comfort still. Critically this is achieved without sacrificing the explosiveness of the Evo or the agility and incredible handling that it is renowned for.

The combination of increased speed through reduced drag, and improved comfort - combine with Cannondale's revised SuperSix Evo geometry. More 'Italian' than ever before and in line with current Bike Fit science, the SuperSix Evo is now slightly taller at the headtube and marginally shorter on all models to accommodate a wider range of rider 'types' - all the while it remains long and low enough to deliver the position favoured by Cannondale's Pro and Elite racers. The pinpoint handling, rapid acceleration and confident stability that make the Evo an excellent all-rounder race bike and adroit descender, all remain.

The SuperSix EVO Hi-Mod Disc Ultegra uses Shimano's Ultegra mechanical groupset for those who (like me) prefer the tactile feedback of a traditional cable operated shifter. The hydraulic disc brakes offer superb modulation for excellent control and powerful braking regardless of conditions and a Cannondale Hollowgram SiSL crank with Spidering delivers your power through the drivetrain. The SpeedRelease Thru-Axle system of the frame allows for rapid wheel changes, road-side puncture repair or packing for transport and the new Connected Sensor developed with Garmin, delivers super acurate speed, distance and route data and more via the Cannondale App.

Finished in Mercury Silver with a discreet Cannondale Wordmark on the toptube, the Cannondale SuperSix EVO Carbon Disc Ultegra Men's road bike looks as fast as it is.

More aero than the competition, light, comfortable and fast and with its signature handling, the new SuperSix EVO Carbon Disc Ultegra Di2 resets the all-round bike benchmark and delivers all the bells and whistles for a dedicated club rider looking to push themeselves.

  • Hi is it possible to reserve this bike or would that require completing the order? I’ve seen that new bikes can move out availability dates a lot due to the manufacturers etcThanksRob
Question asked by Do on 24/08/2020 12:58:57
    Hi,

If you are buying online then it requires completion of the order.

As regards dates, yes these are currently moving backwards - but that is a result of consumers buying bikes and complete deliveries being pre-sold - hence the next availability moving further back.

If you know you want the bike (and this is true for anyone and any bike in current circumstances) the best advice is to get involved sooner rather than later - the situation is unlikely to improve for ther forseeable future and many brands are already SELLING OUT of certain 2021 models before we even get to 2021!

    Thanks
