OVERVIEW

John and Joanne ride a fair amount. Joanne in particular is a racer at heart and dedicated cyclist, at the time she visited us she was still pushing a 53 x 25. Strong.

Earlier this year, before Covid went full force, they visited us for a bike fit. The fit was to serve 2 purposes : to optimise their positions on existing rigs but also to build their forever bikes. The last bikes (potentially) they would need.

Titanium is often a consideration when talking about lasting machines and it certainly ticked the box when “different”was mentioned.

Having had stock bikes for the past few years and using them to the limit of their intended use, they were after something that would be fast, comfortable and able to cater to their love of bike touring.

Joanne fell in love with what Moots had to offer in terms of aesthetic appeal, ride quality and unique finishes, whilst the custom geometry options of the frame suited John’s more upright riding position.

Moots are by no means cheap but they offer something over and above similarly priced carbon options. Their craftsmanship is impeccable, their welding second-to-none and their longevity assured.

The Moots Vamoots DR ticked all the boxes for both riders and each was specified with Ultegra Di2 on Moots’ dedicated Electronic Routed frames. The Vamoots DR allowed Joanne to be comfortable on longer rides but still be racy enough to satiate her desire to go fast.  Joanne has an admirable running palmares and once a racer, always a racer.

Joanne was also drawn to the custom graphic options offered by Moots and chose a Rose finish partnered with purple Chris King elements.

John was able to go for a semi-custom geometry using Moots’ Extended Head Tube option for a more accessible fit than an off-the-peg bike. He chose a more toned-down traditional colour scheme.

These were built as go anywhere, do anything bikes just as their respective riders are. As such both bikes were specified with a range of components that struck a balance of performance, value and durability. In addition, both frames had rear rack mounts as an optional extra, allowing the potential to mount racks for equipped adventures.
