OVERVIEW

One of the things that makes a build special, is the mood and reaction of the person for whom you’re building.

Ed has an infectious enthusiasm – that of genuine unrestrained excitement and joy - about what was a dream build for him. It was impossible not to be enveloped by this every time we spoke about bringing his dream to life, despite the fact that Ed was in Leicester and not popping in from down the road.

Ed has been a remote customer of ours for a while and liked the cut of our jib having been ‘enthused at’ down the blower, so he was keen for us to build his aspirational Colnago. We were happy to oblige such a genial fellow.

Ed is a purist. Ed likes Italian and so to his mind, his dream bike had to be a Colnago.

The Concept was chosen for it’s fit and because Ed is a fan of the aero aesthetic – he also wanted to go fast, so all of his requirements were fulfilled.

From the get-go Ed made it clear that his Colnago Concept was to feature Campagnolo and Italian finishing kit in order to satisfy his appetite for Italian beauty and craftsmanship.

Since it was Ed’s aim to build a bike that would not leave him wondering ‘what if’- he decided to spec the frame with Campagnolo Super Record – the lightest mechanical groupset available.

For the ultimate balance of speed and control, Ed married his frame and group with Campagnolo’s Bora One 50mm deep section wheels with Dark Label graphic for an understated look that ties in with the matte and gloss black frameset. Boras have long been used by riders at the top level of the sport for their excellent low weight and stiffness despite their obvious aero advantages. Indeed they were often seen in mountain stages of grand tours while others opted for low pro rims, before the more recent proliferation of lightweight, stiff and deep carbon wheels.

Finishing kit comes in the form of 3T – another Italian brand with impeccable provenance and whose reinvigorated design under the experienced eye of Gerrard Vroomen, lends itself perfectly to builds like this. The Integra stem and Aeronova bar add both to the look as well as the aerodynamics.
