RITTE Bosberg 3.0 : FRAMESET

Season:2014

Brand:Ritte

Code:RIT-BOS

In 1919 Henri “Ritte” Van Lerberghe, a talented cyclist, turned up at the start line for the Tour of Flanders, he had come directly from his military posting on the front lines and was bikeless. He borrowed a bike from a local and proceeded to ride away from the bunch. Such was his lead by the time he reached the finishing town, he decided to stop at a pub for a Demie - which turned into several. Eventually he was coaxed back onto his bike by his coach and wobbled across the road to complete the finishing laps in the velodrome (on foot). Ritte had won the biggest race in Belgium with 14 minutes to spare and had enjoyed himself in the process.

Ritte spoke to us. Not literally you understand but in terms of the instant love of their aesthetic, their approach to frame design and their amazing value.

Ritte are a relatively young American brand with a heavy Belgian influence. They began life in 2008 with the idea of producing something simultaneously modern and classic. They offer a small range of excellent value frames using up to date construction methods but with a more relaxed view to styling and finish. They’re fun. They are also extremely good. They won’t be for everyone and that’s fine.

Ritte use Japanese Torayca uni-directional, high-modulus carbon fibre - as do many other manufacturers - but in addition use a vacuum process during molding to ensure the highest compaction of the carbon as possible. This compaction eliminates all air from the between carbon piles resulting in lower weight, higher strength and increased stiffness, but more importantly, it minimizes the use of harsh-riding super hi-modulus fibres. As a consequence, Ritte’s frames simply offer a more balanced, comfortable ride while remaining agile and inspiring. With ever more frames available, it is this that helps set Ritte apart.

The Bosberg was Ritte’s first frameset and was designed as an all-round race frame for your all-round rider. Named after the final climb in the Ronde Van Vlaanderen, the 2014 Bosberg is both light, stiff and well-balanced. With the introduction of the Vlaanderen, the Bosberg is now the more comfortable of the range, but don’t let that fool you, it’s no slouch. Weighing 960g for a medium frame, the Bosberg can be built into an extremely light bike equally at home in elite races as it is on a Century ride.

Ritte have designed the Bosberg frame with a slightly longer wheelbase than most, this makes the use of light weight wheels less worrisome and it lends greater predictability to the handling when cornering while creating a stable platform for descending. The use of a BB30 bottom bracket and massive chainstays offer tremendous power transfer and the tapered 1 1/8” to 1 1/4” headtube conveys precise handling. While it shares a similar geometry to the Vlaanderen, the Bosberg uses a standard seat post for more convenience & adjustability, while thinner seatstays lend greater comfort on harsh roads and over longer distances.

The Bosberg is straightforward, simple and beefy and the quality rivals framesets selling for thousands more. Add to this the distinctive aesthetic and impeccable finish: the white, blue, yellow and orange livery is utterly unique and quite beautiful, and you have the makings of a very special bike indeed.

Frames weigh between 890g-1120g (Size XS - XXL) are Di2 ready and have clearance for 25mm tyres (possibly more depending on tyre specifics).

Front derailleur is Braze-On

Fork with uncut steerer weighs a scant 350g.
