It is almost inconceivable that we still have two weeks of racing left after such an epic first week in this year’s tour.

Traditionally it is the third week of the tour where we see massive time losses occur, however with the nasty second week the organisers have on the menu I think we will definitely have some clear winners and losers by this time next week.

Today is the appetiser to the week ahead, a short 145km hilly stage finishing on a long but gradual Cat 2 climb. It will likely be similar to Sunday’s stage with a large break going on the first Cat 4 climb after 16km.

Wout Van Aert can very likely secure all the intermediate sprint points 22km from the end which will almost seal the Green Jersey competition. Given the nature of the last climb he could make it stage number 3 for this tour.

As to the composition of the break, we expect all the teams to have at least one rider represented with the non-GC teams potentially sending a couple of riders up the road.
