The new BB ALPHA product range sets an unprecedented industry standard in terms of bottom bracket performance. The BB ALPHA is the result of a complete overhaul of CermicSpeed's previous BB design, where each individual product element has been meticulously examined and optimised to create the best bottom bracket on the market.
Every Element Has Been Meticulously Refined
The BB ALPHA project didn’t arise from a need to fix any recurring product issues, but rather from CeramicSpeed's foundational desire to constantly improve in their pursuit of perfection.
The new BB ALPHA delivers the trademark CeramicSpeed low-friction performance, while boosting durability and introducing a simplified user experience across the product range.
New Hardened Stainless Steel Races
With the BB ALPHA, CeramicSpeed are introducing one single bearing race material across the range, removing the historic Coated / Uncoated options: a Hardened Stainless Steel offering exceptional corrosion protection.
Furthermore, the internal ball bearing race has been redesigned to provide additional support, allowing the bearing to better handle pre-load.
Custom Made SealsThe BB ALPHA features custom made light contact seals that strike the perfect balance between efficiency and protection. They offer the trademark low-friction CeramicSpeed performance, while boosting bearing protection by 500%. To further enhance the level of protection, the backside of the seals are covered with stainless steel.
Dust Covers
The new dust covers for the BB ALPHA are made of incredibly stiff POM Plastic and have been perfected through 28 iterations.
Inside the BB ALPHA, the bearings have been moved further out in the cup, allowing the dust covers to now sit flush with the outer edge of the cup. This makes it increasingly difficult for debris to penetrate the dust cover and contaminate the bearing.
Stronger & Lighter Cups
In an effort to reduce weight, CeramicSpeed engineers have thinned out and shaved off as much material as possible from the BB ALPHA construction.
This material reduction was made possible by a new and stronger 7075 Alloy material utilised for the BB ALPHA cups. The new cup material and design have played a significant part in achieving a 10% weight reduction across the BB ALPHA range.
Lastly, the BB ALPHA design has been further customised: DUB specific cups now require fewer spacers and are easier to setup, and Shimano compatibilities no longer require spacers.
Tested over 1,000,000 km both in the lab and on the road and trails, CeramicSpeed are confident that the BB Alpha will be the last BB you will ever need.
