Yoga for Cyclists : Strength and Stability

Brand:700

Code:700YFC

Over the last few years there has been a steady increase in the number of cyclists taking up Yoga in order to augment their cycling training and gym work. Yoga is a discipline that serves to underpin and supplement the cardio work and cycling specific drills that riders practise in order to improve their fitness.

700's Yoga for Cyclists : Stength and Stability is a dynamic session that draws on the two key elements central to Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga : those of breath and its relationship with movement. Ashtanga looks to link each breath with a prescribed movement and Yoga for Cyclists is based on the Ashtanga Primary Series - a set sequence that will be modified to offer the greatest benefit in the context of cycling.

When practised consistently, Yoga for Cyclists can help to improve not only your core strength and flexibility, but also your stamina, overall muscle strength and stability; elements key to maintaining a stable and efficient position on the bike.

This Strength and Stability session is ideal for the early and off season as it focuses on developing strength and stability in the major muscle groups used in cycling, while simultaneously improving core strength, flexibility and mobility essential to minimising injury and key to comfortable, sustainable cycling. In addition, Yoga for Cyclists will also teach you to deepen and control your breathing - an invaluable skill for dealing with those tough climbs or chasing down the breakaway.

As the weather improves and we ride more often and over longer distances, the sessions will develop to shift focus towards maintenance of flexibility and mobility and the recovery of muscles while still remaining centred around the strength building aspect of the Ashtanga Primary Series.

The sessions are led by Vikki - Mrs 700!

As well as being a keen cyclist, Vikki has been practicing Yoga for over 16 years and is a fully qualified Ashtanga Vinyasa and Rocket Yoga teacher. She fully understands that we are all unique with our own physiological constraints and her relaxed and engaging style combined with her years of practice, make her an excellent guide for even the most novice Yoga student. You can be sure of an un-critical and encouraging approach to your time on the mat, and always within the context of your unique physical ability.

Vikki's approach is functional and in each session you will be working simply to feel the postures in the target areas. This approach is a move away from traditional 'alignment' based teaching that concentrates on achieving an aesthetic. Each of us will achieve varying levels of the 'ultimate' posture and not one of them will be wrong!

The goal is progress - not perfection.

With a multitude of possible modifications, Yoga for Cyclists is accessible to all, whatever your yoga experience, if any. You will quickly notice improved strength in the physical body that will translate to your cycling and that fundamentally will serve to enhance mental strength.
