Back in 2021 we created our BŌKEN in house brand. The remit was simple: source and provide top notch products at a relaistic and honest price point when offered up against the competition.
We began with our popular and hugely versatile MIRU Titanium gravel / all-road frameset, and while it's take a while to get there (the cycling industry seas have been rough for a while) we are now extremely pleased to be offering our new KAZE Road wheels
KAZE ('kar ,zay) = Wind
Designed to cheat the wind, the KAZE are a 50mm carbon road wheelset with a wave shape that doesn't ask you to choose between performance and budget. Built on 13 years of OEM manufacturing experience, the KAZE are sourced direct from a manufacturer whose expertise has quietly supplied wheels to major European and American brands for over a decade, at a price that reflects the reality of creating rather than the mythology of branding.
The rims are constructed from Toray T700/T800 carbon fibre using the latest integrated moulding processes, which produces a rim that is stiffer, lighter, and more consistent than conventionally-built carbon alternatives. At 50mm depth with a 28mm outer and 21mm inner width, the KAZE sits in the sweet spot that has dominated road racing for years — aerodynamic enough to deliver meaningful speed gains on the flat and in crosswinds, wide enough to run 25-32mm tyres at optimal pressure, manageable enough to handle comfortably in technical descents and variable weather. The pair weighs 1375g, with UCI and SGS certifications to back up the build quality.
The variable depth (45-50mm) sinusoidal rim profile offers not only tangible aerodynamic benefits, but helps improve longevity and consistency by better balancing the spoke tensions across the wheel, helping the wheels stay truer for longer and reducing the stress differential between drive and non-drive spokes.
The spokes are 6mm carbon, 21 per wheel, tensioned to 110–130kgf — a setup that prioritises lateral stiffness and aerodynamic performance while keeping the overall weight in check. In addition, the 6mm width is also far more fatigue and impact resistant than narrower variants delivering durability beyond the norm. The RD-36 hub runs a 54-tooth ceramic bearing ratchet system, delivering fast, positive engagement for swift pick-up when the tempo changes, with minimal frictional drag.
Rims are holeless and tubeless ready out of the box, with a hooked clincher bead setup that opens up tyre compatibility and allows for a choice of tyre set-ups. Ideal for 28-32mm tyres, there is scope to run anything from 25-40mm and the rim accommodates riders up to a generous 120kg weight limit - a number that reflects genuine structural confidence rather than fine-print hedging - and that is backed by a 3 year warranty on Spokes and Rim against manufacturer defects.
The KAZE are available in Shimano HG or Sram XDR variants with centrelock rotor mounting and thru-axles.
Spares - such as spokes and freehub bodies - are available too, so no worries on the support side.
