FiftyOne ASSASSIN Gravel Frame : Black Ops

Season:2025

Brand:Fiftyone

Code:500-100-21

The Assassin from FiftyOne is a progressive and highly versatile gravel frame built with a huge breadth of ability. Built from market leading Torayca carbon fibre, its adjustable geometry creates capability in place of compromise, allowing you to tailor the handling to how you ride. Using years of custom frame building and composites experience, it’s exceptionally light, responsive and comfortable. In short, the Assassin is the answer, whatever question your gravel riding asks.

After many years building Custom road bikes, Fiftyone wanted to turn their hand to Gravel and while they offer a hand-crafted, tube-to-tube construction custom option - they had big ideas that were not possible to realise using this fabrication method. A large-scale factory was needed for the Assassin to become a reality.

The Assassin is built with the same ethos as their custom bikes - for you, to ride as you require. While custom frames offer this by design, 'stock' bikes rarely hit the mark in the same way. To deliver their vision of a a super versatile gravel bike that could be dialed into a rider's specific requirements, FiftyOne took a novel approach. Like a raft of gravel bikes on the market, the Assassin is replete with features for the trail wanderer. It fits both 650b and 700c wheels, happily accommodating a 47mm tyre on both. The chainstays are dropped (on both sides) to afford tyre clearance, retain stiffness and allow riders to run both 1x or 2x set ups. Rack and guard mounts are in evidence including at the fork, and there is even internal routing for Dynamo lighting for the epic adventurer. The down tube sports a rubber bash guard too. Everything you could wish for on a gravel frame is present.

The key difference with the Assassin though, is changeable geometry courtesy of the company's Flip Chips. Flip Chips are inserts in the dropouts that can be removed and ‘flipped’ – from a high to a low position at the fork, and / or along three different fore-aft positions at the rear. Altering the position of the inserts changes the position of the wheel axles relative to the frame, tuning trail and wheelbase to your preference and desired riding / discipline. The Assassin shifts from 75mm trail in the ‘low’ position to 87mm trail in the ‘high’ position, and 1,047mm wheelbase in the ‘short’ position to 1,062mm in the ‘long’ position.
While not unique at the fork (our own Boken Miru has trail adjustment), rear flip chips on a gravel bike is novel and the combination opens up geometry adjustment to suit individuals - and small changes can have a marked effect.

As a rule - longer trail and wheelbase means slower but more stable handling, while shorter trail and wheelbase means faster but more reactive handling. By offering these adjustments, the Assassin is your one-whip quivver. A do-it-all Gravel machine that will deliver should you want to take part in multi day epics, or turn your hand to gravel racing - without the need to beg forgiveness for adding 2 more bikes to your already burgeoning bike rack.

A long set-up is ideal for bike packing long miles, soaking up the surrounds and remaining at peace with the world. A short set-up allows for an engaging ride, chewing up technical singletrack at speed, and keeping you in the hunt on the road

The Assassin is for all : explorers, shredders, racers, bikepackers and anyone else who loves getting away into the countryside. Individually-tailored geometry brings something new and better to the gravel sector. What works for one, does not necessarily work for another but with the Assassin - it can be 'right' for everyone.

The Assassin is available in multiple colourways including Rothman's Blue, Racing Green and the coveted BlackOps. New for 2025 are Desert Storm (Sand), Jet Fuel (Blue-Green) and Avoca Grey (erm, Grey)

  • Flip-Chip breakdown:

The Assassin’s flip chips are the keys to your personal confidence. Rider preferences on bike handling vary and gravel trails vary even more, so one size does not fit all. The solution is FiftyOne's usage-tailored handling, giving you confidence whether you want to race, explore, tour or shred. This is how 51 use their custom-building experience of creating bespoke geometry to make a better factory bike.

At the rear, two chips offer three axle positions, adjusting the effective chainstay length and overall wheelbase in 5 mm increments. Go shorter for more agility, go longer for extra stability, or take the middle option if you want a balance of each.

At the front, the chips offer two positions, High and Low. The ‘Low’ position gives a longer trail and slacker head tube angle, suited to more aggressive riding on more challenging terrain; the ‘High’ position creates shorter trail and a steeper head angle, ideal for gravel races or rides on back roads and less rough terrain.

    • Long and Low = rugged terrain, more MTB feel, likely on ≥45mm+ tyres
    • Short and High = milder gravel, more road bike feel, likely on ≤38mm tyres
    • Experiment to find the combination that suits you and your riding best

The Assassin’s flip chips allow you to tailor the handling to suit your riding. They are not designed to offset a switch between 700c and 650b tyres because that can only be done for specific tyres as outer diameters vary with tyre size. What’s more, 51 firmly believe that a rider on 700x35mm tyres will be on different terrain and want different handling characteristics to a rider on 650x47mm tyres.

And if you just want to stick with one setting, there’s no cost or weight penalty.

    Technical Information

The Assassin gives you freedom of choice to build your bike to suit your riding and terrain:

    • Torayca Carbon Fibre lay-up (See below)
    • 47mm tyre clearance in both 700c and 650b
    • 1x or 2x, up to 50/34
    • Dropper post and Di2 jointly compatible
    • Front dynamo internal routing
    • Fender and rack mounts
    • 4 portal bosses + 2 bottles
    • Mild, Wild or custom paint

    Carbon lay-up

51 knew exactly how they wanted the Assassin to ride and their experience and expertise in custom building meant they also knew how to achieve that.
The Assassin is made with Toray T1100, 800 and 700 fibres, each deployed according to their relative attributes, resulting in a tough gravel frame that weighs just 1050g, rewards your efforts like a great road bike and provides the comfort you want when the ride is measured in days not hours.

    Sizing Information

    Short Stems!

The Assassin is designed around a long top tube/short stem concept, similar to that of modern mountain bikes and in keeping with the progressive, slacker geometry. Reach to the handlebar is maintained while the front centre (BB to front axle) and wheelbase is extended. This increases stability and confidence, especially on rougher descents, and completely eliminates toe overlap in all sizes.
