2027 SEKA Spear Frameset in Twilight Blue

Season:2027

Brand:Seka

Code:SE-SPEAR-TB

The Spear is SEKA's flagship all-round yet aero road platform — the frame that everything else in the range is measured against. Light, aerodynamic, and built on architecture developed from the ground up in a professional wind tunnel, it sits in a class that costs significantly more from any other brand.

Wind Eye and what it actually does on the road

The Wind Eye is the bifurcated seatstay junction that defines the rear of the Spear. It is the element that draws attention on first sight, but its function is more interesting than its appearance. By splitting the seatstay insertions into two arched channels at the seat tube junction, SEKA simultaneously reduces aerodynamic drag and engineers genuine vertical compliance into the rear end — 23% more than the previous-generation Exceed platform. On the road, this translates to a frame that absorbs surface variation and road chatter without transmitting it harshly through the saddle. Over a long day in the saddle, or on deteriorating road surfaces, that difference is felt. The structure has been fatigue-tested to 150,000 cycles at 144kg — well beyond what the standards require.

The Wind Eye saves 2.66W in the rear triangle alone at race speeds. Combined with the full aerodynamic package — frame shaping, fork profile, Rapier handlebar — total drag savings versus the Exceed reach 6W at 40km/h. Independent testing at Cyclingnews confirmed the Spear as one of the fastest all-round road frames available, outpaced in their testing only by three dedicated aero bikes.

Carbon and construction

The Spear uses a high-performance multi-grade carbon layup that includes pitch-based ultra-high-modulus fibres — the type of fibre that, in higher concentrations, defines the RDC specification — alongside TeXtreme spread-tow and transitional ply fibres across the frame. The balance of these materials in the Standard places it at 780g in size M unpainted: a genuinely light frameset, capable of meaningful time savings on climbs and across sustained efforts, built on the same mould and architecture as the RDC above it in the range.

The front triangle is produced by True-One-Piece Moulding — a single continuous mould rather than bonded sections. This saves 25g over bonded construction and produces measurably better fatigue and fracture toughness at every joint. Aerospace PMI foam filling in critical zones keeps wall thickness minimal without compromising structural integrity. The fork and seatpost follow the same manufacturing standard.

How it rides

The Spear's character is playful and actively engaging. The geometry — validated against the Specialized Tarmac SL8 — sits in a handling sweet spot: stable at speed without being dull, with immediate response in the corners without demanding constant correction. On climbs it feels light and lively, responding well to effort out of the saddle and rewarding an active riding style. The Wind Eye's compliance means it remains comfortable across longer days and on roads that a stiffer machine would make punishing. It encourages you to push into corners and stay on the power on rough descents — riders using it on alpine roads have noted that the compliance works in their favour at speed.

This is not a bike that prioritises rigidity above all else. Riders who want the absolute stiffest platform at the expense of road feel should consider the RDC. For riders who want the full Spear aero package, real climbing ability, and a frame that rewards engagement over hours rather than minutes, the Spear is the choice.

What comes with it

Every Spear frameset ships with the Rapier integrated handlebar included. The Rapier is co-developed in the same wind tunnel as the frameset — 16mm at its narrowest cross-section, 310g at 375/100mm specification, available in 19 combinations of width and stem length from 360–415mm wide (measured at the hoods) and 80–130mm reach.

The 5+2 non-linear geometry covers five standard sizes plus dedicated MR and LR race geometry — longer reach and lower stack without needing a smaller frame — validated to handle in an envelope comparable to the Specialized Tarmac SL8.
