FiftyOne GRAVEL Disc CUSTOM FRAME : Integrated

Season:2025

Brand:Fiftyone

Code:FIFTYONEGRAVELDISCSH

Based in Dublin, Ireland, FiftyOne Bikes craft hand-built custom road & gravel bikes as well as factory-built bikes - with a twist. Every bike is made to exacting standards and designed to the especially textured understanding 51 have of the needs of each individual rider.

FiftyOne Bikes was founded in 2016 by former international rider Aidan Duff, in response to the disappearance from top-end race bike brands of the custom options that he had always enjoyed during his career.

Aidan set out to combine bespoke building by hand with advanced carbon fibre to deliver the best of both worlds, and to finish it off with spectacularly individual paint. The gallery of completed builds now stands as testament to the concept, with their only commonality being their individuality. No two geometries or paint schemes are alike.

FiftyOne view the customer as an individual, not a collective. Their focus is on creating the best possible ride experience for you, knowing that this means different things to different riders.

Aidan and I have been flirting for years and with 700’s re-focused approach and FiftyOne's proven track record, it felt right to take it beyond the courting stage.

Welcoming FiftyOne to 700 hopefully means a few things - not least of which is the confidence you can have in selecting FiftyOne as a frame builder, as we are careful to ensure that the companies we partner with, can deliver on their promises. Indeed - if this changes - you may see brands fall out of favour.

FiftyOne have bee building for nearly a decade and started their journey using Enve tubesets (similar to the way that Alchemy started). As the need for more complex tube shapes emerged, Aidan and the FiftyOne team looked to Torayca to provide their raw materials and 51 now build using the industry's benchmark carbon fibre products, including the super light T1100.

Layup is moot since this is largely specified by you based on numerous factors, not least of which is how you want the bike to perform, for the way you ride.
Like many artisinal frame builders, FiftyOne build tube-to-tube in a process that ensures that each custom frame - Road or Gravel - is exactly fitted to the rider. Like all custom bikes, the process begins with a fit - either an existing one that you are happy with or one that we conduct here at 700 to establish the ideal position for your riding and goals. From here, carbon tubes are cut to the client’s exact length and then mitered using a diamond-tipped hole saw.

Once prepared, the tubes are then inserted into a jig to test their fit. The tighter the fit the stronger the joint. With every frame build there is great attention to detail, taking the time to file and sand the joints by hand to ensure the tightest fit possible so your frame is the strongest it can be. The frame is then bonded in a three-step process to ensure maximum structural integrity.

After removing the tubes from the jig, the frame builder sands and prepares the surface to ensure a good bond. A high strength adhesive is used to bond the tubes together, and infrared is used to aid the cure. Before the joints are wrapped with prepreg, a fillet is built up around the joints. This adds additional strength and ensures a smooth transition from one tube to the adjoining tube, avoiding acute angles in the fibres and removing potential weak spots.

The frame is tuned per your requirements through varied lay-up and weights of carbon fibre depending on your size and riding style. This makes it ideal for you.

Once the joints are wrapped, the frame is vacuum-bagged and cured under pressure. The temperature, pressure and duration vary depending on the carbon used. When the frame has cooled and the bagging material has been removed, there is a thorough inspection of fibre compaction and the small flash line is removed from the frame with some light sanding. The frame is then ready to be handed over to the painter.

Finish is a very personal and often emotionally driven element of the custom build process. FiftyOne's graphic designer will draw out your perfect custom paint job through conversations and a psychometric test to ensure you are riding the bike you dreamed of - both from a performance and aesthetic perspective. Once artwork is signed off, the lead time is approximately 10 weeks.

FiftyOne Custom bikes are supplied with Seatpost, headset and one-piece carbon cockpit, with custom finish of the frame and these elements included within the price. If you wish to specify a particular cockpit - and assuming it can be fitted - this can be accommodated, though pricing may vary slightly depending on choices.
